Being Bicultural: Stories of Asian American Youth
As more Americans adopt children from other nations, questions are being raised about whether these new parents will respect the culture from which the children come. Youth Voices Reporter Lewis Reining knows from personal experience how difficult that can be...for the parents and the children.
Do You Have a Hero?
Undoubtedly, that would be Ira Glass. He is my hero because of his ability to bring a piece of America to peoples' homes every weekend. I have been awed, humbled and moved by the stories told on This American Life. Every week, I leave the hour feeling that I am more than I was; that I have just learned something more about my country and the people who inhabit it. Never does the show feel distant. Never do the stories feel like I'm listening to a news report, but instead it is as if we are sitting at a table, relaxing and sharing stories. Ira Glass is my hero because of his vision for a truly original radio show and his dedication to that vision.
