Teen Fashion
Teenage girls have always pushed fashion to the limit. In the 1960s they bared their legs with the mini-skirt. In the 80s, they bared their stomachs. Nowadays, girls are pushing the envelope again. But this time around, they have more encouragement from the fashion and teen media industry. D.C. teenager and WAMU's Youth Voices reporter Phenola has this story.
About Phenola
Hi everyone, my name is Phenola and I’m from the Washington D.C. area. I’m a sophomore at one of the most diverse schools in Washington -- Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. I’m a student leader in the Humanities, Arts, and Media academy (HAM) at my school. I love hanging out with my friends and family and doing different things together.
My story is about teen girls and where they draw the line between what’s appropriate to wear to school and what’s not appropriate to wear to school. Some girls I’ve interviewed say “your clothes should reflect your environment” but other girls say girls should have the freedom to dress how they like and imitate their favorite celebrities.
