Charles
Hi everyone! My name is Charles. I’m a sophomore at Woodrow Wilson Senior High School. I was born in Rockville, Maryland. I’m a dual citizen of Thailand and the United States.
I went to school in Maryland from kindergarten through second grade. Then my family moved to Thailand so that I could learn more about my home country and get to know my relatives. In Bangkok, I studied at an English-speaking school for several years. Recently, I came back to the U.S. to finish my studies and graduate from college.
I joined WAMU’s radio project because I’m interested in becoming a journalist and I want to gain experience reporting. My radio story is about students who don’t have a computer at home and how that affects their chances of getting ahead in their schoolwork and in other areas of life. I don’t have a computer at home and it means that I have to take the bus to neighborhood libraries to get my schoolwork done. But the libraries don’t always stay open as long as I need them to. I also try to get some work done on computers at my school library, but sometimes the library is closed for testing or meetings. That makes me stressed.
